Privacy policy

Purrhaps is a daily guessing game you play inside ChatGPT. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies, and we never learn your name or email address. This policy explains exactly what we do handle.
Who we are
Purrhaps (purrhaps.app) is run by AR AI Labs Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17483830, registered office Suite A, 82 James Carter Road, Mildenhall, IP28 7DE, United Kingdom). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact us about privacy at privacy@purrhaps.app.
What we collect when you play
When you play, ChatGPT (run by OpenAI) calls our game on your behalf. ChatGPT does not send us your conversation, only the information each game action needs:
- An anonymised user ID from ChatGPT. We never store it. We immediately turn it into a player ID using a keyed one-way hash, so our records can't be matched back to your ChatGPT account.
- Your time zone and language, so the game knows which day's puzzle is yours and can reply in your language. We use them for that request only and don't store them.
- Your questions and guesses, exactly as you type them.
Against your player ID we store:
- Your results: for each puzzle, whether you solved it, how many questions and hints you used, the coloured dots of your share line, and when you started and finished.
- Your streaks (days played in a row, wins in a row, and your best of each).
- Your country, only if you choose one for the country rankings. You can change or remove it at any time by asking in the game.
- Your questions and guesses for recent games, so the board can show them. They are deleted automatically a few days after that puzzle's date (at most about five days).
Separately from your player ID, we keep some data that is not linked to you:
- Questions with the answer they got, for up to 30 days, to check that the answers are correct.
- An answer cache of past questions and their answers, so the same question always gets the same answer. It holds no player ID and is kept while the game runs.
- Totals for each puzzle, such as how many people played, how many questions winners needed, results by country (only countries with at least 50 players are shown), and the most popular first questions.
- Guesses that were accepted as correct but worded differently, so we can add them as accepted answers.
Please don't put personal information (yours or anyone else's) in your questions. We may show popular or funny questions publicly, without saying who asked them.
What we collect when you visit purrhaps.app
Our website has no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies, and it loads nothing from other companies: even our fonts are served from our own domain. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps technical request logs for us (the time, the page requested, the type of browser, and an approximate location such as city and country that Cloudflare derives from your IP address). We use these logs for security and to fix problems, and they are deleted automatically within 7 days. The logs we can see do not contain your IP address.
Why we use it, and our legal basis

We don't sell your data, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the game and the website, stores the data described above, and runs the AI model that answers your questions (Cloudflare Workers AI). Cloudflare acts as our processor under its data processing addendum.
- OpenAI runs ChatGPT. OpenAI is not our processor: your use of ChatGPT, including your conversation, is covered by OpenAI's privacy policy.
Cloudflare operates a global network, so data may be processed outside the UK, including in the United States. Where it is, it is protected by the safeguards in Cloudflare's data processing addendum, which include the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Questions and guesses linked to your player ID: deleted a few days after that puzzle's date (at most about five days).
- Your results, streaks and country: deleted after 13 months without playing, or straight away if you ask us to delete them.
- Questions kept for answer checking (not linked to you): 30 days.
- Website request logs: 7 days.
- Totals and the anonymous answer cache: kept while the game runs, because they can't identify anyone.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct, delete or restrict your data, to object to how we use it, and to get a copy of it. Because we never know who you are, we can't find your data from an email address alone.
- To delete everything, say “delete my Purrhaps data” while playing in ChatGPT. Your results, streaks, country and questions are erased immediately.
- To change or remove your country, ask in the game.
- For anything else, email privacy@purrhaps.app and we'll help you make the request from inside the game, where we can recognise your player ID.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Purrhaps is played through ChatGPT, so you need to meet OpenAI's minimum age and other requirements for using ChatGPT. We don't ask for age, and we don't knowingly collect anything beyond what is described above.
Cookies
We don't set any cookies for players or website visitors. The only cookie we use is a strictly necessary sign-in cookie on our private admin page, used by our staff.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll also say so on our home page.
